ABOUT JOHN
It appears my voiceover career may have actually begun in my toddler years, as my nickname among my parents and their friends was “motormouth” ……
Born in South Carolina and raised in Savannah, GA, I grew up in laid back, comfortable, deep southern culture. However, I was exposed to a large diversity of people from all over the nation due to living near two Army bases. Hunter Field was in town and Fort Stewart was just to the west. I had friends in middle and high school from various parts of the United States due to their fathers and/or mothers being stationed in and around Savannah.
In college, I majored in physical therapy and have worked in various settings across my career in healthcare. I am just as comfortable in the Med/Surg/Trauma ICU of a Level One Trauma Center as I am in the home of a patient recovering from a stroke or a hip fracture.
We relocated our family to the mountains northeast of Atlanta, and it was there I began my career in home health care. During this time, my patients and their families would often remark about my voice. To say the remarks were constant is an understatement. I was told everything from “you need to be in radio” to “you need to be a baseball announcer” and things such as my voice is strong, yet comfortable.
Being a husband and father of three, I mentioned this often around the dinner table at home. One of my daughters - who has a bent toward the arts - brought me some information on voiceover of which I knew very little. I began to investigate and realized I would enjoy and be very comfortable using my voice in this manner. Soon after, I began and completed comprehensive professional voiceover training.
As a physical therapist, medical narration is of high interest to me as I not only can pronounce and enunciate medical terms correctly, but I know their meanings allowing me to connect to the script in a more genuine, thoughtful way.
My voice is well-suited for E-learning, corporate narration, promotional narration, and telephony IVR projects. I have the ability to deliver high-quality, edited, and normalized scripts that will connect to the intended audience.
Finally, being raised in the south I like to think that in just two lines of copy, I can go from a reassuring, comfortable, genuine southern gentleman to a full-blown redneck…and back. For any southern needs, I am certainly your guy!
